Family Services At Spring Hill
Spring Hill offers evidence-based services for helping families heal from the ravages of addiction, including family psychoeducation through our virtual five-week series and family therapy sessions.
Addiction has been called a family disease due to its effects on not just the person with the addiction, but the entire family unit. Although addiction is common, family members often feel isolated, overwhelmed, and unsure of where to seek help.
At Spring Hill, we help families heal from the effects of addiction through psychoeducation and therapy sessions. By tackling addiction together, families are reunited, finding support through healthy boundaries, improved communication, and a greater sense of well-being.
Family Support Options At Spring Hill
Family members and significant others of loved ones experiencing addiction have a couple of different options at Spring Hill for learning about addiction, receiving support, and healing the family unit.
5-Week Family Education Series
Our five-week family education series teaches family members about the disease of addiction, family roles, relapse prevention strategies, the importance of communication in recovery, and more, while offering support through connection with other families facing addiction.
Topics include the following:
- Active Addiction: The Brain Disease That Craves Isolation, discussing brain science and the physiological/psychological effects of addiction on the loved one and on family
- Addiction Treatment and the ‘Rugged Individualist,’ focusing on how recovery is not just “an inside job” by an individual, but both that and the individual and family/significant other working together
- ‘You Cannot Not Communicate’: The Dangers of Assumption in Recovery, exploring communication theory and conflict resolution
- Overcoming Adversities in Recovery: A Solution-Focused Worldview, introducing the principles of a solution-focused worldview to nurture success in recovery
- ‘The Opposite of Addiction Is Connection’: Preventing Relapse, highlighting a series of themes relevant to addiction and recovery that are meant as discussion topics, such as rebuilding trust, embracing the role of the parent in recovery as an exemplary role model, what constitutes enabling, etc.
The series is provided virtually so that more people can participate. Family members are encouraged to actively engage by asking questions and sharing their experiences when they feel comfortable doing so.
Family Therapy At Spring Hill
When attending our family education series, family members may decide that more support is required. We offer this at Spring Hill through family therapy sessions, providing a more personalized focus on unique family dynamics, roles, and communication styles. Each family member is empowered to share their experience and perspective, as well as their preferred ways of being and interacting going forward together in recovery.
Family members get to experience each other in new ways, with greater emotional closeness developed through mutual validation, sincerity, accountability, and optimism.
Communicating With Your Loved One
Family members and significant others also may be able to offer support for their loved one through scheduled phone calls. Clients can also send letters and receive mail from family. As part of our safety procedures, all incoming letters and packages are opened first by staff to ensure that they do not contain prohibited items.
