Massachusetts Aftercare Services For Addiction At Spring Hill
Aftercare services for substance abuse are a form of follow-up care that help you maintain addiction recovery. Aftercare services offered by Spring Hill include alumni programming and support as well as connection with other ongoing care options in Massachusetts or your local area.
Entering a drug rehab program for drug or alcohol addiction is only the first step toward achieving lifelong recovery. After completing treatment, most people require ongoing support to maintain recovery. This is referred to as aftercare.
At Spring Hill, every client receives personalized help with establishing the right path forward with ongoing care before leaving us.
Goals of addiction aftercare programs include:
- maintaining sobriety from addictive substances
- developing supportive strategies for relapse prevention
- achieving self-sufficiency and greater confidence in sobriety
Aftercare Planning At Spring Hill
Aftercare planning at Spring Hill will likely involve your case manager, your primary clinician, and other members of your care team. Together, you and your team will discuss the level and types of support required to keep your success going in recovery.
Alumni Program
Our alumni program is open to anyone who has received treatment at Spring Hill. This may include people who attended rehab at the same time as you, or before or after you.
Examples of the alumni events we offer at Spring Hill and our other facilities include:
- bowling nights
- spin classes
- golf tournaments
- 5K runs
- snow tubing
- holiday-specific events
- quarterly events, such as road trips to Six Flags New England
We also offer supportive resources to help you stay involved in your life and community, including:
- volunteering opportunities
- tuition guidance for continuing education
- resume-building techniques
- GED prep courses
- hobby-specific workshops
- scholarship and sober-living opportunities
Joining Spring Hill’s recovery-focused alumni support network can help you remain connected to others in recovery, receive peer support, and keep having fun and exploring life in healthy ways, without the use of drugs or alcohol. You might be actively involved at some times, and less involved at others. Your involvement is up to you.
Ongoing Care Connections
Many people will require aftercare beyond alumni support, such as via outpatient treatment, ongoing therapy, sober living housing, or 12-step or other peer support groups in their area.
In service since 2013, Spring Hill has established trusted connections with other reputable addiction care providers in Massachusetts and in neighboring states, as well as in other areas of the country. This includes sober living facilities and a range of outpatient programs, including partial hospitalization (PHP, or day treatment), intensive outpatient (IOP), and general outpatient. If you began medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with us or otherwise are in need of continuing MAT support, we can also help with that.
With you throughout your treatment program at Spring Hill, your case manager may also offer ongoing support options through legal assistance, help with setting up medical appointments, and more.
Your case manager can help connect you to the following support services:
- housing assistance
- employment assistance
- self-help and peer support groups
- mental health counseling
- educational/vocational services
- other community recovery resources
For example, if there was a particular peer support group at Spring Hill that resonated with you, such as a 12-step group like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA), or a non-12-step group like SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, or Refuge Recovery, we can help ensure that you can still access those meetings after leaving us. Attending support groups at least once a week is strongly encouraged for people in early sobriety and recovery from addiction.
The Importance Of Aftercare
Drug and alcohol addiction is a complex but treatable disease that may require months or even years to overcome.
Aftercare options, like alumni events, continued counseling, and other addiction services, can offer supportive resources for you on a long-term basis as you continue your recovery journey outside of our treatment program.
Benefits of our aftercare services include:
- connection with community-based recovery resources
- access to social support services
- continued opportunities for skill development
- long-term recovery support
- reduced risk for relapse
Relapse is a common struggle among people overcoming addiction. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, relapse occurs in up to 60 percent of people who receive treatment for addiction.
Learning supportive strategies for relapse prevention, and having access to ongoing support, can be critical to conquering a chronic cycle of substance misuse.
Aftercare services are one aspect of a full continuum-of-care approach. This approach recognizes that recovery from addiction may require treatment at multiple levels of care, from inpatient treatment to a community-based support system.
Continuing care in some capacity after our inpatient program can help to bridge the gaps in treatment that can make you more vulnerable to relapse. Aftercare can also connect you to secure housing and employment assistance—both of which can be supportive to addiction recovery.
